Our story is one of resilience, beauty, and a touch of serendipity. Picture this: a Nguni cow, destined for auction, journeys through the Swartland on the back of a truck. But fate intervenes when she leaps off and finds herself amidst the Cabernet vines. Thus, she was aptly named Survivor as a testament to her free spirit.
When the now familiar Survivor labels were first created in 2016 we approached a local illustrator to capture the spirit of the cow that inspired this range of wines as well as the Swartland where she was from. But over time, and as the range expanded (and Survivor’s herd expanded with her 12 calves), we needed to include more terroirs, more cows, and more varied designs.
When the original Survivor matriarch passed away in May 2024, we decided to honour her legacy with an updated range of labels that captures her in her prime and serves as a reminder that our wines are rooted in a sense of place. While we have refreshed our look, we have ensured that our signature Nguni cow remains at the heart of our story, as she quietly inspires all we work for. The new-look labels will grace all the new wines and new vintages released from 2024 onwards, so be sure to keep an eye out for them.
Showing off the diverse terroirs our range is known for, we are pleased that Survivor will continue to travel with us as we showcase our range of wines around the world.
