Survivor, the unbridled Swartland wine range, has made the cut as an ABSA Top 10 Pinotage for the second time, standing tall as one of South Africa’s top producers of this home grown grape variety.
Survivor Pinotage 2017 took the honours this year after the maiden 2014 vintage cracked the nod in 2015. The ABSA top ten wines are considered benchmarks for South African Pinotage by a panel of experts comprising respected local and international wine judges.
“We feel honoured to be named one of the ABSA Top Ten Pinotage wines alongside some of South Africa’s leaders in the industry. Rooted firmly in the Swartland and made from prized low-yielding, dryland vineyards near Malmesbury, we believe that our Survivor Pinotage expresses a true sense of place and authenticity,” says elated winemaker, Ben Snyman.
Meticulously crafted from 100% Swartland Pinotage grapes, the wine is a hearty expression of ripe prune, plum and juicy cherries complemented by elegant notes of spice and cedar. The wine was matured for 15 months in a combination of new and older French oak barrels.
Survivor takes its name from the tale of a fearless Nguni cow that jumped off an open bakkie, landing with just a few scrapes and bruises in the middle of a Swartland vineyard. A metaphor for brave choices, the story of the Nguni cow continues to inspire this intrepid wine range from Overhex Wines International.
The award winning Survivor Pinotage 2017 is available at selected outlets countrywide and sells at the cellar door price of R175. For online purchases visit www.survivorwines.com. Follow @survivorwines on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Survivor Pinotage – “Dark and broody, quite a restrained nose, but opens to show black currant cordial, strawberry and raspberry herbal tea notes. Palate is cool, sleek, bright and vibrant, electrically tart and fresh with plenty of raspberry ripple ice cream and pink and purple rock candy. Super juicy, pine and mouth watering style.” ~ Dr Winifred E Bowman (Cape Wine Master & Wine, Food and Lifestyle Writer) on the Survivor Pinotage 2017
