Survivor Launch

Four brand-new wines from Overhex Wines International pay a heart-warming tribute to an outstanding lady with the unlikely name of…’’Survivor’.

Survivor was born in July 2007 and accidentally found her way to Constantia, a farm situated in the beautiful Swartland area, by jumping truck as she passed by. And there she landed: right in the middle of the Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard! She miraculously survived her injuries and today has five offspring with the sixth calf on its way. Yes, you’ve guessed it – our Survivor is a cow, and no ordinary cow but an indigenous Nguni!

The Survivor wine range pays tribute to this remarkable lady with two red and two white wines from the Swartland region. The premium range embodies the generous spirit and unique terroir of the Swartland where the soil and climatic conditions favour the production of smaller berries with concentrated flavours.

According to Ben Snyman, white winemaker at Overhex, the 2015 Survivor Sauvignon Blanc is a full-bodied, oak-fermented wine rewarding with passion fruit and guava on both nose and palate. Ben describes the 2015 Survivor Chenin Blanc as ‘generous and full with attractive citrus complemented by hints of butterscotch’. Both white wines show excellent oak integration.

Overhex red winemaker, Willie Malan, says the 2014 Survivor Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon is ‘a full-bodied, robust wine with lavish flavours of blackberry and blackcurrant complemented by chocolate and subtle touches of peppery spice and nuttiness’. The full-bodied 2014 Survivor Pinotage shows hearty fruit flavours like prune, plum and cherry with delightful notes of spice and cedar.

The Survivor range is destined for the local, African and UK markets. The red wines will sell in the region of R100 a bottle and the white wines will be available at approximately R80 a bottle.
